Home Ownership
Habitat's main mission is to build simple, decent homes. Home ownership through Habitat for Humanity requires families to commit to the program but it also helps people get on their feet. It is not a hand out, it is a hand up.
We partner with families in the Laredo-Webb County area who are in need of a place to call home. However, the program is not meant for everyone.
Families who enter into the program must:
Qualify Families must meet the guidelines established by Habitat for Humanity. They are that the family must display a need, meet an income range proving your ability to repay a zero interest mortgage, must be legally residing in the United States, and must prove that they have resided in Webb County for at least 2 years.
After Qualifying, families apply for a Habitat home, and pending acceptance, enter into a homeowner agreement where by the family must complete:
Partner Requiments If accepted into our program, the family will commit to completing 500 hours of Sweat Equity, a set of workshops on homeownership, enter into a zero interest mortgage, and meet other requirements.
Habitat homes are located throughout Webb County but we are currently building in our own subdivision, Tierra Prometida, on Highway 359 East of Laredo (approximately 6.2 miles from Loop 20)
Homes are built and designed to be sustainable, energy efficient, and visitable (one entrance has a no step entry). The number of bedrooms and bathrooms is determined by need.
